    About “Portia Macintosh”

    1. Portia Macintosh

Portia MacIntosh has been making stuff up for as long as she can remember or so she says Whether it was blaming her siblings for that broken vase when she was growing up, blagging her way backstage during her rock chick phase or, most recently, whatever justification she can fabricate to explain away those lunchtime cocktails, Portia just loves telling tales After years working as a music journalist, Portia decided it was time to use her powers for good and started writing novels Taking inspiration from her experiences on tour with bands, the real struggle of dating in your twenties and just trying to survive as an adult human female generally, Portia writes about what it s really like for women who don t find this life stuff as easy as it seems.

    1. It's an unrealistic, yet quite endearing story if you can stand the fact that the prota gets wasted on a regular basis even in situations were it's a bi till-advised and every male she meets - expect band managers - is incredibly gorgeous.

    2. Nicole Wilde’s life is one of sell-out gigs, bunking on tour buses, trashing hotels and partying with the band all night long. But she’s not in the band. She is a music journalist, paid to be the world’s greatest groupie– and she loves it! Nicole has the party lifestyle – and the hangovers to prove it – but no one stops her in the supermarket on a bad hair day. Until she is papped in an incriminating position with recently married mega-star Dylan King of The Burnouts and the tabloids [...]

    3. Earlier this month I had the absolute pleasure of reading Portia’s novella, Between A Rockstar And A Hard Place, which introduced us to Nicole (our protagonist) and Dylan, bad boy rockstar! After finishing that one, I was SO eager to read the full length novel and it did not disappoint at all. HNTBS follows the life of Nicole – a magazine editor, a huge partier and always late. Being friends with bands is a cool job, getting to spend time with the hottest rock stars is not a hard life but wi [...]

    4. When I read Portia Macintosh’s debut novella Between A Rockstar and a Hardplace I was immediately struck with how fantastic a writer Portia was! I raced through the novella, desperate to read more about Nicole Wilde and Dylan King so it was pretty awesome to be one of the first readers to read her debut novel How Not To Be Starstruck. I was so excited to dive into the novel, that I immediately finished up what I was currently reading so I could get stuck straight into this one. But, I have to [...]

    5. Dylan King is her best friend and she goes on tour with the band Two [...]

    6. I got this eBook when it was available as a free download from , I really enjoyed the novelette Between a Rockstar and a Hard Place by the same author so I was very much looking forward to reading this.I enjoyed learning about Nicole’s life, she described herself as a professional hanger-on and all she really wanted from life was to have fun – I liked her for this and felt that she was the kind of girl I could be friends with in the real world. Her career as an editor for an online magazine [...]

    7. 4.5**Thank you to GG Book Tours and Portia for sending me this ARC to review as part of the blog tour for “How Not to be Starstruck”.“How Not to be Starstruck” is the full length novel which follows the short, sweet prequel novella “Between a Rockstar and a Hard place”Nicole Wilde has a passion for music, writing about music and for the boys in the bands that make the music. 9. Nicole Wilde's life is filled with interviewing bands, touring with bands, and sharing beds with band members! But Nicole has been doing this for years, and the band members are her best friends, so sharing a bed with them is perfectly innocent. But when her best friend and superstar Dylan gets married and has twins on the way, getting caught by a photographer when they are both steaming drunk turns her life around, and Nicole starts to realise that the fame that goes with it isn't as fun as she [...]

    10. I read and loved Portia MacIntosh's Between a Rockstar and a Hardplace earlier in the year (you can read my review here ) and had been eagerly awaiting How Not to be Starstruck. As a self-confessed fangirl myself I knew I'd enjoy the tales of rock star decadence and debauchery. Although this is fiction, Portia MacIntosh has had first hand experience of band life, and it shows. Two for the Road are lucky to have the people around them that they do because as a band they are on the path to self de [...]

    11. Once again Portia MacIntosh has produced a gorgeous novel - it is fun, sexy and exciting, filled with 'lol' moments!I really enjoyed Portia's novella Between a Rockstar and a Hard Place, and it was great to get another taste of the characters. The protagonist, Nicole, is a care-free character who likes to party and have fun, and is definitely not ready to settle down into a more 'normal' life. I really admire Nicole's ability to just go with the flow, and take life as it comes. It is really intr [...]

    12. Review also posted on my blog reviewedthebook/2014How Not to be Starstruck had me laughing the whole way through. It was fun-filled, sweet, crazy and always entertaining. Portia MacIntosh wrote a fab book. The book was written from the perspective of Nicole, a journalist who spends her time touring with the band Two for the Road, a band in which she has a massive crush on one of the members. I loved Nicole, she was fun and likeable and who can’t relate to having a crush on someone famous? There [...]

    13. Originally posted on: addictivechicklitI received this copy from the author in exchange for my honest review. So here it goes!Actual rating: 4,5/5It was great fun to read about all the bands and what happens backstage. Portia MacIntosh tells the story of Nicole Wilde, a music journalist who avoids living in the real world by pretending to live the rockstar partying life that her friends, the real rockstars, live. This results on a lot of hangovers, arriving late at work and sleeping in tour buse [...]

    14. Thanks to the publisher for providing me with a free copy of this book from NetGalley. And heartfelt thanks those are - this was an unputdownable read, through which the reader is able to vicariously live the life of a "bander" - or girl who follows (or perhaps stalks!) bands.Nicole Wilde has progressed from being a bander/groupie to a music journalist, and now writes a pop magazine, still tours with bands and mixes with celebrity rockstars. She is a very likeable heroine, with a quirky dress sen [...]

    15. Following on from Between a Rockstar and a Hard Place This book starts with the main character Nicole introducing herself and her journalism role which allows her to spend plenty of time with rockstars and attending gigs, after show parties and also goes on tour with them Nicole agrees to go on tour with a rock band that she has kown since they started together and become really great friends with, including having a crush on the drummer. After spending a few nights on the road with the band Nico [...]

    16. This review was first published at M's Bookshelf as a part of a Gosling Girls Book Tour - mssbookshefI couldn't wait to start How Not To Be Starstruck! I enjoyed reading Between a Rock Star and a Hard Place a lot and I was just so excited to read more about Nicole Wilde. and I was NOT disappointed. 17. A true inside of life in the fast lanewell with the famous all names changed of course. This could be any famous people in any time with the bitching and parties. But this is the inside and there is not the expected stuff abut how fabulous any one is, but more about how it is on the road and how is it to be a groupie/music reporter. The scoop on how life could be if you want it to be, or even if you don't!I loved every page of this book and would highly recommend this as brilliant hilarious esca [...]

    18. An excellent story that I thoroughly enjoyed. Nicole Wilde is a great character, her career provides numerous amusing moments and in this book shows how easy it is for things to go very badly. The book is a highly entertaining read that finds Nicole's rocker best friend Dylan in somewhat of a pickle. The dark side of fame comes to the forefront in several parts of the story as Nicole faces some very dark days in her personal life and career.I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

    19. This was a fun, fast read. I liked the writing style and I felt like I was reading a friend's story. There is a lot of humor and not the cheesy kind, the good kind! I picked this up when it was free on and I can't believe it took me so long to get to it. I will definitely pick up other books by Ms. Macintosh. There were a few typos in the book, but not enough to make me crazy.

    20. This book was really boring. It gave many many many unecessary details, and just got old. It is so short but felt incredibly long! I could not get past 60 percent of the book and i skiped 20 percent of the first half!!! PLAIN BORING

    21. A very cute chick lit romance that gives a behind the scenes look at the less than glamorous lifestyle of emerging rock stars. A fun, easy read.

    22. Pretty easy going and fun to read. Read it mostly in the garden in the sun. Pretty predictable ending but fun all the same
