    1.   “Pretty things are not always useless” Mya just magically turned beautiful by night. Really beautiful. To the point that her beauty drove her friends and even her mother away. But that’s just the start of the weird things that happened in Mya’s life. Because in one night, she was whisked away by a mysterious man and left her in an isolated mansion. But there she met Ross, a man who talks to her a lot but the problem is she still haven’t seen him. Is a voice enough to love someone?I [...]

    2. Thanks to FFBC and the author for a copy of this book for review purposes! After loving McConnel’s other book, Daughter of Chaos, I jumped on the chance to review Beautiful Curse. It seems my expectations were a bit too high, as I did not enjoy this novel. First off: awkward writing. It feels as if this book did not go through an editor, what with the overbearingly stilted writing and prominence of exclamation marks. And the conversations between Mya and the love interest, Ross, were even more [...]

    3. *Review copy provided by author in exchange for an honest review for a blog tour.**Also on The Fox's Hideaway.I'm so disappointed right now. You know that feeling you get after a finishing a book that you were SO excited about and it left you with a bad taste in your mouth, like you just wasted hours of your life? That's how I felt after finishing Beautiful Curse. It should be illegal for a cover to look like this when it's such a bad book.Okay, so it's not really a bad book. That was kind of ru [...]

    4. 4.5 starsWhy you should read it: Retelling of myths is one of my favorite genres, and I have always loved Psyche and Cupid's story (I adore Greek mythology). Plus, the cover caught my eye, and I had to immediately have it. This book is chock full of plot and characters, and many of the secondary characters have such life and personality of their own that I'd love to see a story or novella about them in the future. Having said that, there are some plot holes that are left dangling that would be s [...]

    5. REVIEW ALSO POSTED ON MYBLOGActual rating: 2 and a half starsThank you to Fantastic Flying Book Club Tours for providing me a digital review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my review in any way.Warning: this might be slightly spoilery.Beautiful Curse was definitely a weird book and sadly, it was not the “good weird” I’ve been hoping for to read. The plot was promising as it was the contemporary retelling of Cupid and Psyche.Mya Jones, a junior, sud [...]

    6. What I liked: I loved the way this story went. It was mysterious, it was heartfelt, it made you wonder who exactly Ross is, it made you wonder what exactly was going to happen next. They story always made you ask questions about what’s about to happen. It even makes you wonder a few other things, but at the risk of spoiling I’m just going to say it made me ask why time seemed to turn back after a certain incident. Ross was a very interesting character, even though we don’t spend much time [...]

    7. When I saw the word curse, I was instantly at attention, but I will admit that the "most beautiful creature on earth" caused some mild (massive) hesitation. But I forced myself to keep reading, and the hesitancy eased. I am really glad that it did. Beautiful Curse not only has a gorgeous cover, but the story is a pretty darn good one.The Psyche and Cupid myth isn't one that I know very well, not as much as some of the others, but I know enough about it that I was intrigued. Now, I am going to ha [...]

    8. Oh, such a fantastic book, really enjoyed this world, it was really intricate, and I enjoyed these characters! Such a great book!

    9. Not going to lie, this book was a major disappointment I didn't realize it was a Greek Gods book until the last 30%. The writing was from a naive high schools POV and Mya almost had a middle schools mentality. The book overall was trying to tell that you shouldn't put so much value into looks but in the process was just poorly executed.I wanted to stop reading it but it was short and I'm not really a quitter but honestly it was a waste of my time. I like happy easy love stories but this one was [...]

    10. First of all, I believe that this cover is hauntingly beautiful. This author has created a magical web that quickly entwines you. Well written with beautiful characters that will leave you breathless. This modern retelling of Psyche and Cupid is worth the read.

    11. I am so a sucker for a pretty cover.  I've admitted before that I judge books by their covers.  Don't look at me like that.  You do it, too.  And Beautiful Curse has such a pretty cover.  So now you know why I signed up for this tour.Of course, the danger of judging a book by its cover is that you run the risk of the book being crap (or at least not all that you expected it to be).  I'll admit that Beautiful Curse wasn't what I expected it to be (it most definitely was not crap), but it [...]

    12. 'Beautiful Curse' is the phenomenal and completely captivating modern day retelling of the Greek myth of Psyche and Cupid. Mythology and various retellings seem to be all the rage right now, especially in young adult fiction, so I was prepared for another good book that would fade in with the others. I'm incredibly glad to say that this book stood out from the others instead of blending in, and it really gave a fun breath of fresh air that the genre desperately needed. The book is a modern day r [...]

    13. I received this book from YA Book Bound Tours in return for a fair and honest review.First of all, I have to comment on the book cover. I continue to be blown away by how gorgeous it is every time I see it!Onto the book itself - this is a contemporary retelling of Cupid and Psyche but you don't have to know the myth itself to enjoy or appreciate the story. It is heartfelt and mysterious, funny and heartbreakingly sad. This story shows you just how hard it can be to 'beautiful'. I really felt sor [...]

    14. I'm not usually a big fan of supernatural romances. Romances in general are not my cup of tea. I need something more than a love story to capture my interest. But despite the fact that the basis for this story is the romance, Jen McConnel expertly balanced the romance and retelling and created a book that was both interesting and enjoyable. For one thing it wasn't your typical romance. The plot of this story is based on the Cupid and Psyche myth and there is a really great message about inner be [...]

    15. While I have heard of Cupid and Psyche, I wasn't really familiar with their myth so I went into Beautiful Curse with no preconceived notions or expectations. I was really just looking for a mysterious young adult fantasy, and that's exactly what I got. Mya is starting her junior year in high school when she is suddenly transformed into someone who's supermodel beautiful. The girls hate her, the boys love her, and her life is miserable. She's then introduced to Mr. Merk, who whisks her off to a b [...]

    16. This is an amazing book! I loved every single thing about it, the plot, the characters, the way its written, everything is excellent. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend to all of those people who want an entertaining book, full of mystery and intrigue.Mya has turned exceptionally beautiful just before school started. she has no idea how this "beautiful curse" started. One day she was jus an ordinary teeager and the next day she was turned into a super model. But somehow her beauty seems fa [...]

    17. This was a modern telling of Cupid and Psyche. The story in mythology had a more romantic ring to it than this story. Despite attempts to make Mya seem beautiful inside too, I didn't get that vibe. Her romance with Cupid (Eros is used in this story) fell pretty flat. Lengthening the story just set a modern scene and the passion that your mind filled in with the myth was instead filled with lackluster conversation. I liked the magical palace and the side characters that tried to widen the story. [...]

    18. THE REVIEWWhy this book?My sister thought I’ll enjoy itWhat I thoughtI really enjoyed this book. It was a light read and the premise interested me. I never read a retelling of the Cupid and Psyche myth before and this didn’t disappoint. It was a fun twist to the classic myth and the author kept it fresh and exciting. I love the romance and the characters and I’m now interested in reading more retellings of the myth but this will always be a favorite.

    19. Beautiful Curse has everything that attracts me to a book: a beautiful cover, an intriguing summary and it is a retelling of an ancient myth about Eros and PsycheKES * Greek gods in urban setting are not rare occurrence anymore. But I am still attracted to urban fantasy novels that feature members of the Greek pantheon. It always intrigues me to find out how the writer will adapt them to the modern age. * What if I was beautiful? It’s a thought that crosses every teen girls mind. (I know I hav [...]

    20. When I started this read, I didn't know the myth of Psyche and Cupid. After about half, I felt it read a lot like Beauty and the Beast, and a bit farther in, I did recognize the concept from another story I once read, I just didn't know it was Psyche and Cupid it was based on. So the myth angle was done well, I loved all the magical beings, and their hang-ups, the quests (nicely transitioned into new age) and that castle! It was so brilliant, I just wish we could've discovered more special rooms [...]

    21. (I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review).(This review may contain spoilers).I think I've stated in the past that I really like the ancient myths. Eros and Psyche is one of my favourite legends, so I was really eager to read this when I was offered the opportunity to do so.I have to say, first off, that the cover of this book is gorgeous. Even before I knew what the book was about, I found myself drawn to it simply based on the cover alone. That doesn't happen all that often [...]

    22. Originally posted at Fathomless ReveriesThe thing with this novel, Beautiful Curse, is that it captured my attention right away. Presented with idea of beauty, and what it can do to people is unbelievable. There is no doubt that there is a side to beauty that receives destruction. In the case of Mya, her sudden transformation to a model-like beautiful features caught the attention of her peers, which caused her to become bullied. With this introduction, I thought that this one will be something [...]

    23. Thank you to Fantastic Flying Book Club Tours for providing me a digital review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. What a disappointment. I had high expectations with this book because I just LOVE re-tellings and this one looked really good but it fell flat. The story follows Mya as one day she turns beautiful. More beautiful than she could ever imagine and everyone around her changes. Her best friend is jealous and stops talking to her, all the girls think she is sleeping around [...]

    24. *free copy from publisher*MY REVIEWMya is a an average school girl until one day she wakes up and finds herself completely changed. She has this kind of otherworldly beauty that does not escape anyone's attention. Because of her "beauty curse" her mom leaves and her dad resorts to alcohol. And instead of being praised or even acknowledged positively at school, she is shunned and bullied. Friendless and lonely, Mya's life has become hell until a strange man offers her escape. She accepts but it's [...]

    25. Beautiful Curse started out quite mysteriously. Things happen without any reasons, like the main character suddenly getting so gorgeous, it's scary. So as the suspense continues on, the protagonist gets taken into this mythical, magical world, like an escape route to her problems. I didn't read the whole synopsis, which I think is even better, because I was left in suspense who the love interest really was. When Mya, the main character was brought to a different world by the mysterious Mr. Merk, [...]

    26. As much as I love great mythology, I am not as familiar with the story of Cupid and Psyche. So when I saw this was a retelling, I definitely wanted to read it. Jen McConnel does such a great job with the Greek myths that I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed in Beautiful Curse and I wasn’t.Although the story started a little slow for me, I love Jen’s writing so it was still engaging and when we finally find Mya at Ross’s lovely abode, it really starts to jog. I’m fascinated by the world th [...]

    27. This review was originally posted on Star Crossed ReviewsSixteen-year-old Mya Jones is cursed. She is, hands down, the most beautiful creature on earth. But beauty can wound, and Mya finds herself reviled and shunned by her peers. If there is even a chance that she could start over, Mya longs to take it, no matter the risks. So when the strange Mr. Merk offers her a new life away from home, Mya is hesitant but hopeful. Only she didn't count on the mysterious Ross, or her feelings for him.Thank y [...]

    28. ***I was given a copy of this book for my honest feedback***Beautiful Curse is a retelling of the mythological story of Psyche and Cupid. Being a lover of all mythological romances, I was excited to read this book. I thought it was written very beautifully. The fact that I was able to finish the book in two days despite my obnoxiously busy schedule can attest to that. The romance between Ross and Mya was so cute that I was grinning from ear to ear as I flipped the pages. And I loved the presence [...]

    29. So this was a retelling of Psyche and Eros and a awesome one at that. It was so fun to read the exact same retelling but at highschool student level that was entertaining and then to see that Eros human persona is basically a nerd but oh Aphrodite once a bitch always a bitch #TeamHadesandPersephone
